The seminar was very productive, with good discussions on the mapping of locations of each of the communities which were represented. The mapping enabled us to identify existing institutions, social and economic infrastructures and the kind of support needed for artisanal fishing. The exercise helped participants understand their communities and activities they needed. The seminar also examined the social, economic and governance factors that may have an impact on the climate and artisanal fisheries such as the environmental changes. We analyzed the environmental factors and identified the causes, the impact on fishermen and measures that can be used to mitigate risks and create more resilience to climate change. We had a deep analysis of these environmental factors because the views of those in the fishing industry were considered. They had knowledge of timeline of events. This chronology of events will be analyzed to learn more about alternative methods to mitigate the effects of these environmental changes. This work has been made possible through the developed methodology which require the communities to follow different steps to identify environmental factors that affect them and their activities and come up with adaption plans resistant to climate change.
