It was poetry night at King’s Club, a nightclub in the up-market neighbourhood Alice. Due to its pool tables and dedication to live music, it was a favoured venue f Luandans with some disposable income who were seeking a reprieve from the com Brazilian and US pop hits streaming from the speakers at the beachfront area of the the loud bass of one of the city’s other favoured evening haunts, Elinga. It offere alternative possibilities, occasionally hosting talks on African history and identi regular open mic nights for the city’s aspiring poets. The success of the evening re nervous newbies proffering their words to a supportive crowd and a smattering of 1 who would perform to shouts of approval.
