Urbanization is occurring rapidly in some of the world’s most populous and least
urbanized areas, notably Asia, and Africa. While just over half of the world’s
population now live in urban areas, the percentage is expected to increase to about
68% by the year 2050. 1 Already high, demand for housing in African cities is
expected to grow exponentially in the upcoming decades.
